Aug
It looks like we’re finally getting a little break from the heat. If you’re lucky and live on the westside of town, you’ve probably seen a little bit of rain also. Because of the extreme heat and lack of rain, we’re pushing our regular fall garden schedule back a few weeks and we are shooting for the last week of August to plant seeds and seedlings.
Right now we are preparing the plot by stirring the soil and mixing in new mulch and compost to replace nutrients. We are still deciding on what we will plant. We are leaning towards Cucumbers, Broccoli. Cauliflower, and Carrots. Other options include Cabbage, Lima Beans, and Parsley.
All of the above should do well for the fall as long as they are shielded for any extreme summer conditions after they go into the ground. We will use some of the shading techniques described in the last post in the event that the summer conditions extend beyond August. Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope we don’t have a repeat of Hurricane Ike….YIKES!!!
