Things to do in June

post Category: Garden post Author: admin post Comments: No Comments »

June is the perfect time to plant your FALL TOMATOES because you’ll get to pick the fruit in November before the first frost.  Here are some tips for your fall tomato crop:

  • Use planters if starting with seed rather than going directly into the ground
  • Have everything in the ground by mid-July
  • Plant ~3 feet apart to allow for support cages when the plants get taller
  • Plant in full sunlight, but have something available to provide starters with some shade until they get strong
  • Transplants should be planted deep enough to bring the soil up to the 2nd leaf from the bottom
  • Consider EARLY GIRL, FIRST LADY, or SUPER MARMANDE as they are good proven varieties for our area

There it is.  If anyone else has any tips to help with the fall tomato crop, please share.
